I bet he was the first one to pay for one as well. But truly Leno is the most worthy collector of fine automobiles out there. I would love to be able to ogle at his garage.

Excuse my ignorance.....

Leno does have absolutely great taste in cars and a truly amazing collection from what I have seen. I am lost to what has he actually done to earn this collection which rivals the Sultan of Brunei's?

Late night talk show host. Number one in late nights, makes lots of money.

I was aware of that. I had hoped he'd actually contributed something to society to earn his apparently vast fortune...

I can't understand that someone whose job is to give this weeks popular entertainers a platform for selling their latest project has one of the most amazing car collections in the world.

Well done to him for playing the system (not so much for exacerbating it), but I think it speaks to massive failings in our culture and society when such things are possible while poverty is still very real for millions of Americans and billions of people all over the world.

He offered a private tour of his garage for a $1000 dollar donation to the Boys and Girls Club of America when I was at the concours in Monterey. Damn it that I don't live in Cali.

Well shit, too bad I wasn't at the concours and I don't have a spare grand to donate, I would have loved to do that for my pops, he's a huge fan of Leno and his collection. I think my pops has watched all of the Jay Leno's Garage videos at least twice. . .

The main difference between Leno's collection and the Sultan of Brunei's is that Leno' collection actually gets driven and not set in a garage somewhere to be forgotten about and neglected. . .

That would have been an awesome gift! I probably could have spared the donation, but not the grand for airfare haha. He did raise $28k in about 30 seconds though :P

I bet he did. His garage is arguably one of the most impressive private collections out there. Plus he has some unbelievably rare machines in there. I still need to get to Monterey for car week one of these years with my dad. I'm sure he'd go all nuts and point out the little idiosyncrasies of what makes a particular car special. But getting him out is like pulling teeth, it took 5 years to get him to go to cars and coffee with me. . .

Admittedly I don't think his comedy is hundred-million dollars worthy, but he actually drives and maintains (by himself and with a purpose-hired mechanic) his collection brilliantly, then makes a fantastic YouTube series about all his cars. That kind of treatment makes him, in my mind, a worthy collector.

I don't disagree. He's by far one of the most enthusiastic and open collectors. He is very much a car guy and I don't hold his collection against him at all, he clearly appreciates it. The problem I have is with the society which enables someone who is essentially just a 'funny man' to amass such a collection.

You better get working then! Everything I did in Monterey that weekend was incredible. I highly suggest going to Quail Lodge, a "private" event, but the parking lot and manufacturer displays were mind blowing, met Leno there too! Also, head over to the Laguna Seca historics race, saw some things I never thought I ever would. LeMans machines out the wazoo, even a Mazda 787b, 787, and RX-792P, eargasms to the max. And of course the concours, which is a whole new level of wow. After all of that, I am unfazed by most local car shows, even cars and coffee & supercar saturdays. I feel like I have seen it all and can die a happy man after an F1 race and a trip to the 24hrs. EDIT: forgot about a WRC race ;)

Its a freak product of economics. Just like Justin Beiber or Adam Sandler.
